Congratulations are in order for Dr. Guoqing Lin and Dr. Krishna P. Tewari. These two INNOVIM colleagues contributed as co-authors to a paper recently published by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.
The paper entitled NPP VIIRS Early On-Orbit Geometric Performance assesses in great detail the performance of the NASA/NOAA Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument on board the Suomi National Polar‐orbiting Partnership satellite launched in October 2011. This on-orbit geometric performance assessment is an important aspect of the VIIRS sensor data record calibration and validation process.
The paper discusses VIIRS’ geometric performance based on the first seven months of VIIRS’ on-orbit Earth and lunar data, and compares these results with the at‐launch performance based on ground test data and numerical modeling results.
